Our day trips in Cambodia take place in Phnom Penh, the country's capital and most populous city. Phnom Penh is home to over 2 million of Cambodia's population of 16 million.

After years of civil war, Cambodia is now at peace and is growing fast economically. However, the economic benefits of this growth do not reach all members of society. Many children and young people lack opportunities and live in vulnerable situations.

Phnom Penh is the economic hub of Cambodia and attracts many migrants from around the country. Poor rural families commonly end up marginalised and living in poverty in Phnom Penh. Around one-quarter of the city's population currently lives in slum communities. Children in these communities are especially vulnerable and often end up on the streets and become victim to abuse and exploitation.

Our mission in Phnom Penh is to help some of these underprivileged young people have access to more opportunities by taking them on a day trip with a difference!

Day trip with a difference in Phnom Penh

Morning - Creative workshop

Friends International delivers a creative workshop that involves designing a tote bag with a personalised environmental message. The purpose of the workshop is to foster self-confidence, raise awareness about environmental issues and help relieve some of the stress and pressure created by the Covid-19 crisis.

Lunch - Let's Eat

The group enjoys lunch at Let's Eat - a social enterprise food stall serving delicious food and providing vocational training for young people.

Your contribution, however big or small, will help make a difference to the lives of young people

living on the streets and in the slums of Phnom Penh.

A donation of $25 will support one child to join a day tour with a difference.

100% of donations go towards the day trips as all administrative costs are covered by us.

Our NGO partner in Cambodia is Friends International. They provide social support to around 17,000 children, youth and families living in harsh conditions on the streets and in the slums of Phnom Penh. Our day trips contribute to the development of these children and youth, and tie in with the organisation's goal of creating opportunities for young people.

Friends International runs a full child protection and social reintegration program that includes outreach on the streets and in marginalised communities, drop-in centres for street children, transitional homes for children separated from their families, non-formal education and vocational training. Our day trips form part of their outreach work.
